Free city pickup or a rented container?
If you live in San Antonio and pay for city trash service, part of your cleanup may already be paid for. Check this before renting anything.
Curbside brush and bulky collection
The city collects brush and bulky items at the curb twice a year for each home on its service. You find out your week from a door hanger, which arrives 7 to 10 days ahead. The date on it is when your pile should go out, and the pile has to be ready by 7 a.m. on the Monday of your collection week.
Pile rules
- No more than 8 cubic yards.
- Within 8 feet of the curb.
- Wrong materials, a blocked pile or a pile set out after crews pass can bring a fine of up to $2,000 per day, plus a collection and disposal charge.

Missed your week?
The city offers paid out-of-cycle collection. Staff look at the pile and give a free estimate based on its size, and crews collect within two working days of payment. Request it through 3-1-1.
Or haul it yourself: the four city bulky centers take up to 4 cubic yards of bulky items and 1 cubic yard of construction debris per visit. Center addresses.
When a roll-off wins
- The job makes roofing, drywall, tile or concrete debris. None of it is accepted curbside.
- You have more than about 8 cubic yards, or more than a pickup can take in a couple of trips.
- Your collection week is months away and the work starts now.
- You live outside city service, in a suburb or unincorporated Bexar County.
Ask local haulers for a price.
